Take a moment to reflect on the miraculous nature of the human body. It is an extraordinarily complex creation, capable of performing millions of supernatural tasks daily without us even being consciously aware. It’s hard to even comprehend the dynamic energy that sustains it – every breath you take, the constant blood flow to and from the heart, the complex digestive process to convert to energy – all accomplished concurrently, synergistically and effortlessly!
I am truly in awe of the power and complexity of our body. It can repair, adapt, purge, respond, fight infection, cleanse impurities and heal wounds. Whether you suffer from a pinched nerve, pulled muscle or stomach pain, it is furiously working 24/7 to fully recover to its normal state. Many mystery illnesses and health risks we suffer from never go to surgery or are even properly diagnosed by modern science but ultimately are miraculously self healed from our own body as it is a constant healing mechanism.
Our body can be our best ally but also our worst enemy. The very same body that can perform amazing feats of athletic prowess is also vulnerable to unbelievable suffering. When we are healthy and vital and functioning at a high level, we can experience tremendous joy. But we will also inevitably succumb to pain, from the random injury to ultimately deteriorating from chronic pain due to aging and disease.
Our bodies are incredibly demanding and high maintenance, mandating that we nourish and replenish it several times a day. We must feed, hydrate, comfort and deliver on all the complex desires and impulses our body needs. It is a mind-blowing requirement, but our bodies duly reward us exponentially and are often quite forgiving to the damage we assault it with.
But our bodies can brutally punish us too. When we poison it with vices such as alcohol, drugs, tobacco and pills, it can lead to a chronic, even deadly, outcome. When we abuse our bodies with unhealthy food choices, it will revolt, rebel or simply break down. Extreme behavior – over/under exercising, over/under eating, high stress, lack of sleep – can lead to dire consequences too. We are all challenged to strike that delicate balance and avoid either extreme of the spectrum. Easier said than done in our demanding and vain culture that rewards physical beauty at any cost.
Take note of the important decisions you make on a daily basis that can affect the health of your body. Strive to nourish and replenish it rather than abuse and ignore it and be very aware of the connection between Mind and Body as they are inextricably linked. A healthy mental and emotional state will reward your body. Be in awe of this extraordinary gift and learn to respect your essential boundaries. Your body is the home for your soul, where your soul resides and experiences form, so a healthy body creates a healthy environment to optimize the beauty of your soul. It helps shape the pure essence of what uniquely makes you as an individual. So take care of your body and make it more than just your home as it is uniquely yours. Make it a temple, your sacred temple.
